BACK TO PROJECT

Energy consumption is one of greenhouse gas sources from wastewater management. In general, domestic wastewater treatment plants in Thailand consume a lot of energy for pumping wastewater and aeration during treatment process. Wastewater utilities spend almost 40-60% of their operation cost for energy (depends on treatment technology and serviced area). Wastewater Management Authority (WMA), who has responsibility on domestic wastewater management, has high interests on improving wastewater system through energy efficiency because this can provide a tangible benefit for overall operation. In order to maintain or improve energy efficiency in wastewater utility, there are quite different ways which can be done at 4 stages;

  1. Design that suit with serviced area (wastewater influent and wastewater loading)
  2. Select mechanical equipment with high efficiency according to demand and purposes of usage
  3. Operate properly according to the equipment specification
  4. Maintenance to prevent losses and maintain efficiency

On 16 – 17 August 2017, WaCCliM-Thailand organized a training program on “Effective and efficient design / select / operate / maintenance mechanical equipment in Wastewater utility” with guest speakers from Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Technology, College of Industrial Technology, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North.
This training was designed to enhance knowledge for WMA wastewater operators on design and select suitable wastewater pump according to demand. General guideline for maintenance and improving energy efficiency in wastewater pump also included in this training. Result and development from this training will benefit WMA in the long term.
