Gender equality is a human right and a guiding principle and feature of our work.
The emphasis is on creating and expanding equal opportunities for all individuals regardless of their gender, sexual orientation and gender identity.
Together we drive the gender-equality agenda, build institutional capacities and support individuals in enjoying their rights and unleashing their potential. Many of GIZ’s projects and internal practices and provisions demonstrate how gender-based discrimination and disparities can be overcome as we work to realise gender equality.
To serve our corporate vision, “We work to shape a future worth living around the world”, we have created a gender strategy as a framework for the whole company across the world, but which is also flexible enough to support country-specific contexts.

Gender Equality at GIZ Thailand
Gender Equality is one of GIZ’s key values. The promotion of equal rights and opportunities and the elimination of gender-based discrimination and violence are core elements of sustainable development – in our work, in our cooperation with partner countries, in Thai government agencies and as individuals.
We actively support gender justice and diversity within the company, identify opportunities to promote gender equality, and identify and eliminate negative impacts at an early stage in project development.
Gender Equality is not a for-women-only issue.
Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination in general addresses concerns of women and men, girls and boys, LGBTQ and others who are facing exclusion or limitations in unleashing their full potential and in exercising political and social self-determination.
Gender Equality is a common goal, which needs alliances within society as a whole.
Gender Equality and Gender Mainstreaming covers various topics, starting from promoting women in science and technology start-ups and studies. Recent trends indicate a growing gender digital divide and women being under-represented in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and design.
At the international level, UN member states have signed up to the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development which puts human rights and gender equality at the core of all development action. With Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5, member states agreed on clear targets to achieve gender equality in political and social spheres and eliminate violence and discrimination against women and girls.
At the company level, GIZ Thailand has put in place a policy for the Prevention of Sexual Harassment and Bullying in the Workplace.
