GENDER EQUALITY

Gender equality is a human right and a guiding principle and quality feature of our work.

The emphasis is on creating and expanding equal opportunities for all individuals regardless of their gender, sexual orientation and gender identity.

Together we drive the gender-equality-agenda, build institutional capacities and support individuals in enjoying their rights and unleashing their potentials. Many of GIZ’s projects and internal practices and provisions demonstrate how gender-based discrimination and disparities can be overcome in a pursuit to realize gender equality.

To serve our corporate vision, “We work to shape a future worth living around the world”, we have created gender strategy as a framework for the whole company located across the world. Yet, it provides flexibility to appropriate the country specific contexts.

Political will and Accountability Clear positioning of the company and the manner in which managers commit to realizing gender equality and promote and follow-up implementation of the gender strategy in their area of responsibilities.
Corporate culture Representing and making visible inside and outside GIZ, those patterns of behavior, codes of conduct and processes within the company that promote and enhance gender equality.
Gender competence Skills and gender knowledge of the workforce to apply and use the relevant instruments and approaches for actively contributing to gender equality and the elimination of gender-based disadvantages and discrimination.
Process adjustment Gender-sensitive and gender-differentiated design of all procedures and instruments at Head Offices and in the field structure, especially HR management, commission and quality management as well as results and impact monitoring.
Gender equality within the company Promotion of potentials, equal rights and opportunities for all employees and members of the workforce, irrespective of their gender, sexual orientation and gender identity. Creation of a balanced gender ratio for the different job categories and assignments within the company.

GIZ Gender Strategy VDO

Gender Equality at GIZ Thailand

Gender Equality is one of GIZ’s key values. The promotion of equal rights and opportunities and the elimination of gender-based discrimination and violence are core elements of sustainable development – in our work, our cooperation with partner countries, Thai government agencies as well as individuals.

We actively support gender justice and diversity within the company, identify opportunities to promote gender equality, identify and eliminate negative impacts in an early stage of the project development.

Special interview with GIZ Thailand’s former Country Director, Mr. Tim Mahler

Gender Equality is not an only-for-women issue.

Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination in general addresses concerns of women and men, girls and boys, LGBTQ and others who are facing exclusion or limitations in unfolding their full potential and exercising political and social self-determination.

Gender Equality is a common goal, which needs alliances within the whole society.

Gender Equality and Gender Mainstreaming covers various topics, starting from e.g. promoting women in science and technology start-ups and studies. This is a result of trends that indicate a growing gender digital divide and women are under-represented in the field of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and design.

On international level, UN member states have signed up for the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development which puts human rights and gender equality at the core of all development action. With the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) no. 5. Member states agreed on clear targets to achieve Gender Equality in political and social spheres and eliminate violence and discrimination against women and girls.

On company level, GIZ Thailand has established the Prevention of Sexual Harassment and Bullying at the Workplace policy
