16 – 22 June 2013
Bangkok
During 16-22 June 2013, engineers, architectures and representatives active in the field of energy from public organizations, private companies and universities joined a combined business and study trip to Germany to explore the opportunities for the development of Energy Efficiency in Buildings in Thailand. The trip was organized by GIZ as a part of the “Energy Efficiency – made in Germany” Initiative by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) and was greatly supported by the Royal Thai Embassy in Berlin.
In Thailand, building sector consumes 25% of total energy use, especially commercial buildings, such as hotels, hospitals, shopping malls and etc. There lies a great potential for energy savings. Energy consumption could be reduced through
- Efficient air conditioning and ventilation
- Shading
- Improved insulation
- Lighting
- Building automation and energy management system
Germany is one of the global frontrunners when it comes to energy efficiency in buildings with long-standing experience in research and development of technology and management system in this regards. This trip offered the participants an opportunity to meet with German companies providing technology and services for energy saving in buildings and visit new and retro-fitted buildings where newest solutions of energy efficiency have been implemented.
Furthermore, on 20 June 2013, the Information-Workshop on “Energy Efficiency in Buildings in Thailand” took place in Berlin as part of the trip aiming at sharing ideas and experiences between Thailand and Germany. The workshop highlighted the German innovative energy efficiency-solutions in the building sector (planning, engineering, architecture designing, constructing and technology applications) and the current status of energy efficiency in buildings in Thailand in terms of political framework and initiatives.
This trip was to promote business partnerships and sector-specific network as well as to strengthen cooperation between Thailand and Germany. It served also as the preparation for the AHK-business trip on “Energy Efficiency in Buildings” organized by the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce (GTCC), which will take place on 28 October – 01 November 2013 in Thailand.
