Mr. Monthon Sudprasert, Director General of Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning (DPT), Ministry of Interior (MoI) and Dr. Raweewan Bhuridej, Secretary General of Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) signed the MoU to support adaptive spatial planning development in response to climate change to increase the resilience of the cities and communities on 1 June 2018, at DPT Rama 6.
The MoU between the two agencies represents the outcome of the high-ranking talk held in February 2018, as well as a steady cooperation in a field of climate change adaptation, through the mainstreaming of (drafted) National Adaptation Plan (NAP), steered and supported by GIZ.
ONEP has foreseen DPT as a key partner in mobilizing the NAP into action in a participatory approach at all levels. The NAP alone cannot be achievable if it is not mainstreamed into the development and spatial plans. The strong collaboration is needed from both agencies to move forward Thailand to climate resilient development.
The MoU will provide a concrete basis for the future implementation of the NAP to increase the resilience and robustness of the society and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in all levels. “DPT is committed to plan and design sustainable cities in response the consequences of climate change to increase the resilience and robustness of the cities as well as decrease the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission” concluded by Mr. Monthon Sudprasert.
