GROOTS
CONTEXT
Groots believes that the people in emerging rural economies possess myriads of valuable information that can shape the future of how we design good products and systems for the changing world.
Winning the first GIZ-wide Innovation Fund Competition in 2017, Groots is now a data collection service for private and public companies, sustainably sourcing grass-roots expertise and metrics in emerging markets.
OBJECTIVE
To contribute to a world in which people and communities own their digital selves and are participating in the data economy on equal terms
APPROACH
Groots sustainably sources real-time and primary data in emerging markets, rewarding those who have field expertise and first-hand information. By building a digital swarm at the grass-roots level, we are able to seamlessly collect and market data for private and public companies.
Our swarm-based approach provides instant, primary and cheap information for a variety of use cases in a reliable and sustainable way, unlike current solutions, which are missing this symbiotic approach and struggle with user fatigue. We help organisations and companies to create evidence-based solutions that shape a better future for these communities. Currently, Groots is developing its core system.
Example: mymoverity.com
In cooperation with Toyota and GIZ ASEAN Transport Programme, Groots customized a data collection platform sourcing fuel related information from vehicle owners in order to educate drivers on their consumption patterns. Providing drivers with feedback on efficiency, this solution helps to reduce fuel consumption and transportation expenditures and has a positive impact on the environment.
