On Thursday 1, October 2015, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and German International Cooperation (GIZ) arranged “Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony Regarding joint technical cooperation in Energy Efficiency in Building and ESCO facilitation approach” in support to Thai-German Programme on Energy Efficiency Development Plan (TGP-EEDP).

Main Objectives of the Joint Cooperation:
To exchange knowledge, best practices and transfer consultancy provision and capacity building in at least two main focusing areas:

1. ESCO Facilitation, e.g. facilitation guideline, lesson learnt from the ESCO facilitation pilot project, coaching for DSM Office’s future pilot project, etc.
2. Building Energy Efficiency, e.g. building EE labels, financial tools, etc.

• EGAT: EGAT is Thailand’s leading state-owned power utility under the Ministry of Energy, responsible for electric power generation and transmission for the whole country as well as bulk electric energy sales. EGAT through The Demand Side Management Office (DSM) has been operating for more than 20 years which is in the line of Deputy Governor – Corporate Social Affairs and it has two divisions, namely, Planning and Implementation Divisions. Its main mission is to promote energy efficiency as a solution to mitigate environmental problems, as a cost-effective alternative compared to supply-side’s options and to enhance public image of EGAT.
• GIZ: Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit or German International Cooperation is a federally owned organization, having the objective to improve people’s lives on a sustainable basis.  It supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in international cooperation for sustainable development and international education.  The GIZ provides viable, forward-looking solutions for political, economic, ecological and social development in a globalized world. In Thailand several activities of GIZ target the improvement of the energy sector in a sustainable and climate-friendly way.
• TGP-EEDP: Thai- German Programme on Energy Efficiency Development Plan (TGP-EEDP) is a project implemented by GIZ since 2012 in cooperation with the Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO) to contribute to the further development and support the implementation of the 20-year Energy Efficiency Development Plan (EEDP, 2011-2030), financed by the German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety.

In this occasion, Mr. Soonchai  Kumnoonsate, Governor of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), Dr. Christine Falken-Grosser, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the German Embassy in Bangkok and Mr. Christoph Mairesse, Acting Country Director – GIZ Thailand joined the ceremony.
