PROJECT DURATION
November 1993 – December 1999
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Based on a request for technical assistance submitted by the Planning Division of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) in March 1990 the “PEA Training Center Expansion and Development Project” was initiated to provide further training and qualification to PEA employees.
The overall objective was to qualify PEA staff so that they could ensure adequate security and quality of electricity supply in areas with high load density (reduction of power failures).
Statistics show that this target could be achieved: A reduction of the system average interruption frequency (SAIFI) by 23,5 percent and of the average interruption duration (SAIDI) by 38,2 percent from 1994 to 1998 was recorded.
In industrial areas – the main target areas of the project – the SAIFI and SAIDI dropped by 31,5 percent and 53,6 percent respectively bringing economic benefits for large industrial companies which had suffered from significant production losses due to power failures in the past.
