he GIZ Project Improved Management of Extreme Events through Ecosystem- based Adaptation in Watersheds (ECOSWat) together with GIZ Training Hub, Bangkok, organized a four-day training during 10 – 13 November 2015, on Ecosystem based Adaptation (EbA) to Climate Change with Focus on the Water Sector. It was held at Anatara Hua Hin Resort and Spa, Hua Hin, Thailand. The objective was to provide a clear conceptual and technical capacity to the participants, which came mostly from Thai ministries. Twenty participants attended the workshop. Eighteen Thai participants represented the Department of water resources, Royal Irrigation Department, Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning andGIZ-ECOSWat projects, Thailand. Two international participants represented GIZ projects in Afghanistan and East Timor respectively.
The Workshop was facilitated by Dr. Andrea Schlönvoigt and two co-trainers from the GIZ-ECOSWat Project staff, Ms. Jaruwan Ngamsing and Ms. Ketpharima Sansud. The workshop aspired to strengthen the technical knowledge and training capacity of the co-trainers, which will replicate the training process further in Thai language within the water sector.
The workshop provided Havard Case Study Method experiential style learning onclimate risk terminology, process of scoping for EbA, vulnerability and risk assessment, concepts of community based adaptation, application of a risk rating tool, process of selecting EbA measures and integration of EbA into developmental planning in the water sector.
The evaluation at the end of the workshop revealed a high level of satisfaction amongst the participants.
GIZ-ECOSWat Project will roll out further trainings for the water sector in Thailand in the coming months working towards an enhanced resilience of the sector to climate change
