BACK TO PROJECT

In December, The Proliferation of Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) in Asia – the Next 5 Countries (SCP Outreach) project is conducting an analysis of the Green Public Procurement (GPP) and Ecolabel landscape of Bhutan, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam with the Thailand Environment Institute (TEI).

The study aims to review and analyse the current situation of GPP in these five target countries in order to provide a common understanding of the national GPP programmes and type I eco-labelling schemes.

The results are updated status of national Public Procurement, Environmental labels, and market analysis for potential product groups to implementing the green products. The results of this analysis are expected to be used as inputs for planning activities, especially in the first year, as well as define the implementation strategy and mechanism.

“Plenty of support measures have been released to reduce the crisis including social unrest, but work is still needed on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are also looking at the sustainability of our economy, so international projects and the sharing of experiences such as Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) are part of the development goals.

“Consumer Information and Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP) are important aspects of the sustainability policy in Germany. Eco-labelling can also be created in other ways to distinguish between more and less sustainable products,” said  Dr. Ulf Jaeckel, Head of Division G II 2 “Sustainable Consumption, Product-related Environmental protection”, Federal Ministry for the Environment, Natural Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) at the meeting.

The German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) is funding the project ‘Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) Outreach in Asia – The Next 5 (SCP Outreach)’, which is being implemented by GIZ. This project is based on the successes of the Advancing and Measuring Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) for a Low-Carbon Economy in Middle-Income and Newly Industrialized Countries (Advance SCP) projects and the implementation of Green Public Procurement and eco-labelling schemes to reduce GHG emission in four countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand). Thailand has offered to share its 15-year experience as project host with the next five countries (Bhutan, Cambodia, Myanmar, Lao PDR and Vietnam).
