BANGKOK, 30 January 2017 – The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) and GIZ have co-organized a strategic meeting aimed at educating department staff about risk assessment. DDPM Deputy Director-General Kobchai Boon-orana presided over the meeting attended by representatives from the German Embassy and the GIZ, as well as DDPM officials and emergency responders.
The Thai participants learned how to assess potential risks that could compromise public safety, align the Thai risk assessment system to international standards, and implement preventive measures to reduce risks. The meeting will pave the way for Thailand to recover quickly from natural disasters. The department head stated that future preventive measures, such as canal dredging to mitigate flooding, will be implemented in order to lower risks to the public.
