As a sign of recognition for contributing to the German Action Days on Sustainability 2017, the Sustainability Office issued a certificate to Corporate Sustainability Handprint (CSH) of GIZ Thailand for its first plastic waste campaign, ‘Do Something Drastic, Cut the Plastic!’.
The campaign aimed at raising awareness notably through experience and knowledge sharing by Mrs Madeleine Recknagel who is living a plastic free life in Bangkok and Ms. Vara-anong Vighakyothin from UBPack, an innovative and eco-friendly company specialising in starch-based biodegradable materials. To put words in action, some project teams ordered glass straws, used refillable lunchboxes and to-go cups in their office, while the Country Office set-up a corner with fabric bags for every staff to borrow. Posting good practices on social media is also encouraged to spread the word and remind everyone how simple it can be to reduce plastic waste.
Note: GIZ Thailand Office started with the CSH process in September 2016, by first putting together a core CSH team comprised of country office and project staff members. After the official Kick-Off event on 26th September, the team collected quantitative and qualitative data for the 4 fields of action including Economic Capability, Social Responsibility, Ecological Balance and Political Participation. The end result was a CSH factsheet and the formulation of self-commitments to improve GIZ Thailand’s sustainability practices.
