HISTORY

Development of Industry-Oriented Graduate Education and Research in Engineering (DIOGE)

02 June 2019
PROJECT DURATION
September 2002 – March 2005
PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Until the 1990s most of the training courses offered by Thai universities in the fields of engineering, material sciences, electronics, energy and environment-friendly technologies had been heavily theory-based. Therefore graduates had considerable deficits with regards to their practical qualifications and did not meet the needs and demands of the Thai industry. To overcome this problem the Thai-German technical cooperation project “Development of Industry-Oriented Graduate Education and Research in Engineering” (DIOGE) aimed at introducing dual study programmes for engineering at the King Mongkut’s University of Technology, North Bangkok (KMUT-NB) and the Rajamangala Institute of Technology (RIT; in 2005 renamed to RMUT) which combined university courses with on-the-job training in industrial enterprises. This way students would gain valuable insights into the industrial environment – their future workplace – and the enterprises would profit from the transfer of latest technology initiated by the students trough internships, theses, etc.
