During 17-18th August 2015, GIZ-ECOSWat team, along with the experts from Institute for Technology and Resources Management in the Tropics and Subtropics, Cologne University of Applied Sciences, Germany (ITT), have visited the Huay Sai Bat sub-river basin at Khon Kaen province, Thailand. The ITT experts are conducting the Economic Evaluation for the proposed Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) Measures, which were the results from the Vulnerability Assessment conducted by the German Expert, Dr. Hubert Lohr, in collaboration of Thai professors from Khon Kaen University.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by the Chairman of the Working Group of River Basin Committee (RBC), Head of Villages from the communities and was given very insightful knowledge regarding the flood and drought problems in the basin, including the updated situation of the areas where EbA measures were proposed. The delegation has observed and interviewed the local people. The knowledge gained will be integrated into the studies, to identify the economic value of the proposed EbA measures compared to the grey infrastructure. Furthermore, the delegation has explored scientifically further with professors from Khon Kaen University.
