Climate Change Policy

What the future holds for rice in the Chaopraya river basin in this era of climate change

  • The Chaopraya river basin may experience heavy rainfall, more intense storms and higher temperatures in the future.
  • The adaptation options include the reduction of rice farming areas and planting frequency, alternating of higher-value rice varieties, mixed crop farming and development of small-scale irrigation systems.
  • Inputs from local government and local farmers will be considered for the formulation of a long-term plan in order to be able to better cope with the risks.
