  • The 3rd EEN workshop enabled companies to translate identified energy-saving opportunities into tailored concrete action plans, supported by technical tools and peer learning.
  • Participants of the EEN workshop obtained hands-on training of applied data analysis and economic viability assessments to ensure energy efficiency measures are both technically feasible and financially viable.
  • Company visits, knowledge exchange and support from partners such as TGED, Arqum and the FTI reinforced a collaborative approach to achieving measurable energy and collective carbon reductions.

From 9-13 March 2026, the Thai-German Energy Dialogue (TGED), in collaboration with Arqum GmbH and the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), advanced the implementation of the Thailand Pilot Energy Efficiency Network (EEN) through a series of company visits and the 3rd EEN Workshop held in Bangkok. The activities aimed to support participating companies in identifying energy-saving opportunities and translating them into actionable measures.

The highlight of the week was the 3rd Thailand Pilot EEN Workshop, held on 13 March 2026 at the Eastin Grand Sathorn Hotel, Bangkok. The workshop focused on transforming knowledge and technical solutions introduced in previous workshop into company practical actions.

A key feature of the workshop was peer learning among EEN members. Robert Bosch Automotive Technologies (Hemaraj) presented its energy efficiency journey and carbon-neutral factory initiatives, showcasing successful energy-saving projects and management approaches ranging from low-hanging fruit practices such as leakage management to more challenging ones. It also showed that structured energy management, combined with strong internal coordination and a willingness to undertake innovation and investment support can deliver measurable results in the long term.

Technical sessions were led by Philipp Poferl, Senior Environmental Consultant from Arqum GmbH, who introduced tools and methodologies to support effective energy management and project implementation. In particular, the session on economic viability calculation of energy efficiency investments provided participants with practical experience in using data analysis tools to assess both the technical and financial feasibility of proposed measures.

The workshop also addressed the enabling environment for implementation. Chalerm Sampantanaruk, Director of the Institute of Industrial Energy, FTI, highlighted available incentives for energy-efficient machinery and financial support mechanisms for implementing energy saving solutions. Julachet Wuthiwaropas, also from the FTI, presented guidance on how companies could calculate and report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions as part of their carbon footprint. These elements are critical for translating technical solutions into measurable climate outcomes and increasing competitiveness in the global market.

Company visits identify opportunities for energy efficiency

To ensure the effective implementation of the 3rd EEN Workshop, consulting teams from Arqum and the FTI conducted preliminary energy audits between 9 and 12 March 2026 to assess current energy consumption patterns and identify energy efficiency opportunities tailored to each company’s operational context.

The site visits began at Thai Metal Smelting Industry (TMSI), Bangkok, where opportunities were identified to improve furnace performance and combustion efficiency. The team then visited TPN Packaging, Chachoengsao, which showed energy-saving potential through improvements in compressed air systems, cooling systems and machinery efficiency. At Beger, Samut Prakan, discussions focused on enhancing the performance of cooling systems and the long-operating hot-oil boiler system. The visit to Robert Bosch Automotive Technologies, Rayong (Hemaraj) highlighted the company’s global approach to energy efficiency management, which emphasises cross-site collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement in energy performance, supported by strong investment mechanisms and internal operational frameworks.

The Thai-German Energy Dialogue (TGED), funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy of Germany (BMWE) and implemented by GIZ, is part of Germany’s efforts to promote the transition towards renewable energy internationally. The partnerships combine governmental dialogues with technical exchange with relevance for concrete steps towards improving energy efficiency in the private sector.
