On 18 March 2026, the Thai-German Cooperation on Energy, Mobility and Climate (TGC EMC), implemented by GIZ Thailand, in collaboration with the Climate Change Institute (CCI) at the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), organised basic training on carbon footprint assessment and Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) frameworks, designed to support greenhouse gas mitigation across the industrial sector.
The training provided participants with foundational knowledge of MRV principles and strengthened their understanding of carbon footprint assessment at both organisational (CFO) and product (CFP) levels. It was designed to build practical capacity in greenhouse gas accounting and support the adoption of structured, measurable emissions reduction strategies in line with national and international climate frameworks.
The programme brought together participants from both public and private sectors, representatives from four key industries such as cement, pulp and paper, petrochemicals, and food and beverage, along with technical experts. It facilitated cross-sector collaboration and knowledge exchange to promote the implementation of low-carbon practices and reporting standards across Thailand’s industrial landscape.
The training was led by Dr Sontaya Krichnavaruk, Director of the CCI at the FTI, together with the CCI expert team. The sessions provided comprehensive insights into Thailand’s climate policy landscape, recent developments and core MRV principles, along with internationally aligned greenhouse gas reporting standards and methodologies for both CFO and CFP assessment.
In the afternoon, the programme featured hands-on exercises based on practical case studies from industrial activities. Participants applied data collection methods, emissions factors and greenhouse gas calculations in a structured setting, strengthening their technical readiness and confidence in developing reliable and transparent emissions data.
The training marks an important milestone in strengthening the foundation for Thailand’s industrial sector to develop robust, reliable and verifiable greenhouse gas inventories. Building on this progress, TGC EMC will deliver more advanced, sector-specific training to further support Thailand’s transition towards carbon neutrality.
Funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) under the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUKN), the TGC EMC project supports Thailand’s commitment to carbon neutrality. Through its five components – Renewable Energy, Transport, Decarbonisation in Industry, Biomass and Climate Finance, TGC EMC facilitates technology transfer, policy development and business model innovation through a sector-coupling approach.
