On 22 July 2026, the IMPROVE (Introducing Measures, Pathways and Roadmaps for Optimising Vehicle Efficiency and Electrification) Project, implemented by GIZ Thailand in collaboration with the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP), organised the Thai Fuel Efficiency (FE) Data Portal Training Workshop to strengthen government agencies’ capacity to use transport data for policy development and decision-making.
Developed by the Thailand Automotive Institute (TAI) under the IMPROVE Project, the Thai FE Data Portal integrates the light-duty vehicle (LDV) registration database from the Department of Land Transport (DLT) with the Eco Sticker database from the Office of Industrial Economics (OIE). The platform provides comprehensive transport data from 2015 to the present to support the analysis of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions from Thailand’s road transport sector, as well as key indicators such as average fuel consumption, fuel-type market share, vehicle sales trends, electric vehicle (EV) uptake, and average CO₂ emissions by manufacturers. The database is updated annually.
The training equipped participants with practical skills in navigating the platform, interpreting data visualisations, generating analytical outputs, and applying the data to transport policy analysis. Dedicated sessions for system administrators covered user management, database maintenance, system updates and operational procedures to support the platform’s long-term operation.
Through practical demonstrations and case studies, participants explored how the portal could be used to assess transport decarbonisation policies, monitor progress towards Thailand’s greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction commitments, evaluate policy effectiveness, and support evidence-based decision-making on fuel efficiency and vehicle electrification.

The workshop highlighted the importance of reliable transport data and institutional collaboration in advancing climate and transport policies. By strengthening technical capacity and promoting data-driven decision-making across government agencies, the IMPROVE Project continues to support Thailand in building a robust data ecosystem for a cleaner, more energy-efficient and low-carbon transport sector.
The event was attended by members of the IMPROVE Working Group, who play a key role in supporting the implementation and long-term operation of the Thai FE Data Portal, which has now been officially transferred to the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning.
