Bangkok, 7 July 2026 – The International Hydrogen Ramp-up Programme (H2Uppp), implemented by GIZ Thailand on behalf of the Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), participated in the Thai-German conference ‘Shaping Thailand’s Energy Future with Energy Storage Solutions (including Hydrogen)’, organised by the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce (GTCC). The conference brought together relevant stakeholders from Thailand and Germany to exchange perspectives on the future of energy storage solutions, including hydrogen technologies, supporting Thailand’s energy transition.
Showcasing green hydrogen digital innovation from GIZ-Enapter-DAD
Tanai Potisat, country director of Enapter (Thailand), highlighted the Hydrogen Energy Management System (H2-EMS) improvement project jointly implemented by Enapter GmbH, Dhanarak Asset Development (DAD) Co., Ltd., and GIZ under the H2Uppp programme. The project deploys H2-EMS 3.0 at the Government Complex in Chaeng Watthana as a regional flagship for hydrogen energy management.
The H2-EMS PPP project demonstrates how digitalisation can optimise integrated energy systems by connecting green hydrogen and other energy assets through a unified industrial communication platform. With real-time monitoring, intelligent energy management and seamless system interoperability, it enhances operational efficiency and enables scalable hydrogen deployment. As a showcase of German innovation and international collaboration, the PPP is accelerating technology transfer, local capacity building and the growth of Southeast Asia’s emerging hydrogen economy.
Thailand’s perspective on the future of energy storage solutions
A high-level panel moderated by Dr Pramote Puengjinda from GIZ Thailand, brought together Supachai Koonsad from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), Dr Narun Suwanchotchoung from the Hydrogen Thailand Association, Dr Chanchai Amornvipas from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), and Dr Rujiroj Leelaruji from the Thailand Energy Storage Technology Association (TESTA) to discuss Thailand’s evolving energy storage landscape. The panel highlighted that a single technology would not be able to deliver Thailand’s energy transition. Instead, a portfolio of complementary storage solutions will be essential to enable a renewable-based power system.
While battery energy storage is expected to lead short- to medium-duration applications, hydrogen was recognised as a strategic enabler for long-duration storage, industrial decarbonisation and sector coupling. Speakers agreed that unlocking this transition would require enabling policies, sustained investment and close collaboration among the government, industry, academia and international partners, with German technology and expertise playing an important role in accelerating innovation and market development.

German technologies and expertise driving Thailand’s energy transition
To strengthen business cooperation between Thailand and Germany under the German Energy Solutions Initiative, which promotes clean energy technologies and business networks between Thailand and Germany and is supported by BMWE, the conference provided a platform for leading German companies and research institutions to showcase energy technologies and solutions, including Forschungsstelle für Energiewirtschaft (FfE), Goetze KG Armaturen, H2 Powercell GmbH, SFC Energy AG, Skeleton Technologies GmbH and Wissenskapital Energie GmbH. The presentations highlighted practical technologies for grid flexibility, advanced energy storage, hydrogen technologies and digital energy management. German technology providers demonstrated how system integration could strengthen grid resilience, accelerate renewable energy integration and support Thailand’s transition towards a secure and low-carbon energy system.
