On 18 August 2026, GIZ Thailand, received the ‘DCCE Climate Partner Award’ from the Department of Climate Change and Environment (DCCE), recognising organisations that support Thailand’s climate change action. The award reflects GIZ’s commitment to working with partners across sectors to support Thailand in achieving its climate goals.
The award ceremony was held at the DCCE to mark its third anniversary. Dr Timo Menniken, Country Director of GIZ Thailand, represented GIZ in receiving the award from Dr Raweewan Bhuridej, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
Since the establishment of the DCCE, GIZ has worked with the Department across various areas, from policy development, capacity building and knowledge development to access to climate finance and international cooperation. Key projects include:
- Climate, Coastal and Marine Biodiversity (CCMB), which supports the development of national climate change policy frameworks, targets, tools and knowledge platforms to facilitate the implementation of climate policies. The project also enhances the capacities of personnel and networks, while fostering knowledge exchange between Thailand, Germany and international partners.
- Thai-German Cooperation on Energy, Mobility and Climate (TGC EMC), which supports efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the energy, transport, agriculture and industrial sectors. The project also strengthens the Environmental Fund as a financing mechanism for climate change related projects.
- Thai Rice: Strengthening Climate-Smart Rice Farming (Thai Rice GCF), which supports farmers in transitioning towards low-carbon and environmentally friendly rice production.
- Regional Collaboration on Global Carbon Markets (RC-GCM), whichsupports the development of strategies and approaches to position Thailand as a regional carbon market hub in ASEAN.
- EMPOWER, which strengthens the capacity of DCCE personnel and provincial-level networks to develop and advance climate change policies.
- EU Climate Dialogues (EUCDs), which supports knowledge and understanding, as well as cooperation on climate change between Thailand and the European Union.
- The Support Project for the Implementation Instruments of the Global Biodiversity Framework and the Paris Agreement (BioClime), which supports the integration of climate change and biodiversity actions, as well as strengthening linkages between the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
GIZ will continue working with the DCCE and partners across sectors to support Thailand in advancing long-term, sustainable climate action.
