21 August 2026, Nonthaburi – GIZ Thailand and National Science Museum (NSM) have signed a memorandum of understanding under the project ‘Youth and Public Awareness Programme on Climate-Smart and Sustainable Rice Farming’ to disseminate knowledge on environment-friendly rice production and raise awareness on sustainable agriculture among youth, teachers, farmers and the general public.

The project also includes diverse learning activities and accessible science communication toolkits to promote better, more sustainable farming with long-term positive social impact. The signing ceremony was held during the National Science and Technology (NST) Fair 2026, at Phoenix 4 Room, IMPACT Convention Centre, Muang Thong Thani.

Suwarong Wongsiri, Acting Director of the NSM, said: “This collaboration combines GIZ’s expertise in climate-friendly agriculture with NSM’s expertise in science communication and learning experience design to make complex issues accessible and relevant to young people, teachers, farmers and the public. The ‘Sustainable Rice’ exhibition at the NST Fair 2026 marks the beginning of a series of activities, including a mobile exhibition RICE RANGER, knowledge toolkits for primary schools, and online science communication.”

Dr Nana Kuenkel, Agriculture and Food Cluster Coordinator, GIZ Thailand, said: “GIZ is committed to supporting Thailand’s transition to climate-friendly agriculture, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening food security. Through this collaboration, we aim to make knowledge on sustainable rice production more accessible and engaging for young people and the Thai public, while encouraging innovation and greater participation across the agricultural sector.”

The collaboration will continue beyond the NST Fair 2026 exhibition, with activities planned in other regions, including Chiang Rai and Ubon Ratchathani, where GIZ’s agricultural projects are currently underway. The activities are planned to expand to a total of 21 provinces across the central, northern and north-eastern regions, creating more opportunities for schools, communities, farmers and consumers to learn about and better understand climate-smart and sustainable rice production, while strengthening the Thai agricultural sector through innovation, science and technology.
