In June, GIZ, through the Thai-German Cooperation on Energy, Mobility and Climate (TGC EMC) project, Transport Component, in collaboration with the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP), held high-level meetings with local officials and stakeholders in Saen Suk municipality in Chonburi, Nakhon Ratchasima municipality, and Phuket to strengthen collaboration between the project team and local administrative organisations, as well as share progress updates, and explore opportunities for jointly implementing innovative solutions that align with both the project’s goal to support Thailand in achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and each city’s long-term transport strategies and plans.
On 9 June 2025, the project’s team met with the Chief Administrative Officer and Executive Board of the Saen Suk municipality in Chonburi, where the City Lab concept and its ongoing activities were presented. The discussions highlighted key opportunities to enhance the sustainability of the city’s transport system, building on insights gathered from previous stakeholder engagement and collaborative workshops. The meeting confirmed Saen Suk’s commitment to joining City Lab as a pilot city.
On 11 June 2025, the team met with the Vice Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima province and Mayor of Nakhon Ratchasima municipality, as well as key public and private sector stakeholders. The City Lab team outlined opportunities for sustainable transport electrification in the area and proposed a collaborative framework to strengthen the urban mobility system. Nakhon Ratchasima municipality reaffirmed its support for the City Lab initiative, pledging active participation and strategic alignment with the city’s long-term transport policy goals.
Finally, on 17 June 2025, the team visited the Governor of Phuket and relevant government departments to discuss the project’s alignment with Phuket’s urban transport vision. The discussions confirmed Phuket’s interest in joining the City Lab programme, ensuring that the project will be integrated into the city’s broader sustainability and transport strategies.
Moving forward, TGC EMC will continue to work on the City Lab initiative closely with local administrative organisations and stakeholders to co-develop and pilot tailored solutions aimed at decarbonising and electrifying urban transport, thereby supporting each city’s transition towards a more sustainable, inclusive, low-emission mobility system, and ultimately contributing to Thailand’s broader goal of achieving carbon neutrality in the mobility sector by 2050.
