From 18-20 September 2023, the ASEAN Municipal Waste Management Enhancement (AMUSE) Project organised the Knowledge Exchange Forum for the Network of Sustainable Model Cities at the Prince Palace Hotel, Bangkok. The forum aimed to facilitate knowledge exchange on sustainable urban development among local government networks that have demonstrated effective environmental management. It provided an opportunity for participants to learn from good practices and apply them to their own city development strategies, taking into account local contexts, and to scale up these initiatives to other municipalities across the country.
At the forum, the AMUSE Project shared lessons learned and good practices on municipal solid waste management in medium-sized tourism cities and served as facilitators in small group discussions. This helped promote the exchange of good practices in collaboration with representatives from Yasothon City Municipality, a model city under the AMUSE Project.
The discussions highlighted ways to enhance waste management in tourism cities for greater efficiency and sustainability, including waste management during peak tourism seasons and the organisation of zero-waste events.
The forum was supported by the Sustainable Urban Environmental Management Promotion Subdivision, under the Division for Climate and Environmental Participation, Department of Climate Change and Environment (formerly Department of Environmental Quality and Promotion), in organising the Knowledge Exchange Forum for the Network of Sustainable Model Cities.
