BACK TO PROJECT

The “Sustainable Freight Transport and Logistics in the Mekong Region” project got off to a good start by expanding the implementation to targeted countries. Vietnam is the first country for this mission!

Ms. Wilasinee Poonuchaphai, the project co-director, had a meeting with the Vietnam Automobile Transportation Association (VATA) and the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam (DRVN) to present all aspects of the project implementation and management, from its activation to factors that affect project implementation.

Ms. Wilasinee Poonuchaphai said “The project aims to increase efficiency in energy consumption and improve environmental performance, occupational health and safety in the freight transport and logistics sector. The 3-year project will help Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Vietnam (CLMV) and Thailand upgrade the quality and standards of their transportation and logistics sector to international levels and invest in technology that is more efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly. It will also promote awareness and set up policy-support measures on the standards of labels, regulations and initiatives for modern transportation systems.”

In conclusion, the project needs to adjust specific methods and make it appropriate for each country. It also needs to build mechanisms and policies to encourage transport units to become green transport.
