TGC EMC organises workshop for consolidating work plan and implementation for 2025

From 4-6 March 2025, Thai-German Cooperation on Energy, Mobility and Climate (TGC EMC) conducted a consolidated planning workshop to review the project’s progress in 2024 and discuss work plans for 2025. Representatives from GIZ and consortium partners, namely Agora Energiewende, Agora Verkehrswende, the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT), Fraunhofer, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), the Thai Renewable Energy Association (RE100) and School of Renewable Energy and Smart Grid Technology (SGTech) participated in the workshop.
The first day began with a ‘Strategic Consortium Management’ discussion, where management-level personnel gathered to revisit TGC EMC’s progress, address challenges and discuss opportunities to enhance the trajectory of the project moving forward. Following the morning session, the workshop invited all representatives from the consortium partners and GIZ to discussions for the rest of the day to review the project’s achievements and challenges in 2024.

Highlighted as the ‘Year of Implementation’, 2025 is a significant year for TGC EMC to drive forward its outlined deliverables and impact to support Thailand’s efforts towards the climate and energy targets. The second day of the workshop focused on the consolidation of the 2025 work plan for implementation by each component. Throughout the day, the participants engaged in dynamic discussions on potential challenges, risks, and opportunities that could shape the project’s trajectory, drawing insights from the outlined objectives and operational work plans.

The final day of the workshop explored cross-cutting areas and other topics where the project could create impact, highlighting digitalisation, gender and inclusion among the areas explored. There were also prominent discussions on ideas to promote the topic of Sector Coupling and the National Stakeholder Platform, which are considered key project outputs to reinforce cross- collaboration towards Thailand’s decarbonisation and energy transition pathways.

A ‘Strategic Communication’ workshop was also organised back-to-back in the afternoon of the 6 March 2025. In this mini-workshop focusing on the project’s communication work, interested participants engaged in creative discussions to explore key strategic approaches, identify challenges and opportunities, and brainstorm ideas to enhance TGC EMC’s communication work and outreach.

Since its launch in 2023, TGC EMC has been working with key implementing political agencies and stakeholders across different sectors in Thailand to support the country in achieving its energy transition and decarbonisation targets. The TGC EMC Consolidated Planning Workshop serves as an annual gathering that brings together team members from the project’s consortium partners and GIZ to strengthen project collaboration, address challenges and ensure cohesive and impactful project implementation for the coming year.
Funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) under Germany’s Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and jointly implemented by GIZ, the TGC EMC project supports Thailand’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050. Through its five components (Renewable Energy, Transport, Decarbonisation in Industry, Biomass, and Climate Finance) TGC EMC facilitates technology transfer, policy development, and business model innovation.
