TGC EMC accelerates development of decarbonisation roadmap for food and beverage industry

On 29 October 2025, the Decarbonisation in Industry Component, under the Thai-German Cooperation on Energy, Transport and Climate (TGC EMC), launched its kick-off workshop to develop a decarbonisation pathway for the food and beverage industry. The workshop convened key representatives from the Food and Beverage Industry Club, the Federation of Thai Industries and leading companies to exchange insights and jointly design an industry-wide roadmap for greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction. With Thailand’s target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, the roadmap aims to guide early action and provide a clear, coordinated direction for the sector’s transition.
Associate Professor Pipat Chaiwiwatworakul, Advisor from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), presented key findings on the sector’s energy demand and temperature requirements across production processes – factors that open up opportunities for carbon reduction technologies such as the use of industrial heat pumps. He emphasised the workshop’s importance as a knowledge-sharing platform that connected experts, manufacturers, policy planners and industry representatives to identify effective decarbonisation strategies combining policy planning, innovative technologies and clean energy solutions.

A highlight of the workshop was the sector-specific working sessions, where participants from the sugar, bread and bakery, beverages and edible oil industries discussed technical and policy challenges, shared experiences and proposed practical recommendations. These insights will feed directly into the draft decarbonisation roadmap, ensuring it reflects real-world conditions and industry needs.

This workshop marks the first step in supporting Thailand’s food and beverage industry to enhance efficient energy use, cut emissions and align with the country’s long-term sustainability and ambition to achieve carbon neutrality.
