Nan City Unites to Strengthen Community Solid Waste Management

On 8 October, GIZ Thailand through the ASEAN Municipal Solid Waste Management Enhancement (AMUSE) Project in collaboration with the Pollution Control Department (PCD) organised the meeting to present the Waste Management Strategy in Nan Province and discuss findings from the study on “Technical Recommendations for Municipal Solid Waste Treatment and Disposal in Nan Province”, conducted by a consultant team from the Joint Graduate School of Energy and Environment (JGSEE), King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT).
Mr. Banchong Khunpet, Deputy Governor of Nan Province highlighted during the opening remarks: “This meeting provides a valuable opportunity for all stakeholders in Nan Province to present, exchange, and share opinions — including local administrative organisations, waste management experts, and various partner agencies. I firmly believe that such open dialogue will lead to practical and locally appropriate solutions for Nan’s waste management challenges.”

Participants included representatives from the Pollution Control Department (PCD), Provincial Local Administration Office of Nan, Provincial Office of Natural Resources and Environment (Nan), Regional Office of Environment and Pollution Control Office 2 (Lampang), and 11 local administrative organisations.
Beyond presenting study findings, the meeting also served as a platform to discuss collaboration approaches for integrated municipal solid waste management across Nan Province, from waste generation to final disposal. The consultant team will incorporate the comments and suggestions received from this meeting into the study results and submit them to the Pollution Control Department in the next step.
