‘I eat, therefore I am’ new Facebook page suggests alternatives on how we eat responsibly

‘I eat, therefore I am’ new Facebook page suggests alternatives on how we eat responsibly who care not just about themselves and their own health but the others around them – people in their families, classrooms, neighborhood, workplaces as well as vegetable plots, the food industry, nature and environment.

The concept behind “I eat, therefore I am” comes from philosopher René Descartes’ famous quote, “I think, therefore I am” (meaning because I have ability to think, therefore I exist. The ability to think makes human a human.) Thus, the meaning of the quote, I eat, therefore I am, is that eating (consuming) makes us exist. But what is most important is how people consume. Do people consume responsibly enough to help themselves, society and the environment?

People gradually become what they eat. And their consumption behaviours gradually reveal the kind of human body and mind in which they reside.

The project has created this Facebook page to raise awareness and suggest alternatives that will make people reconsider what kind of consumers they are, which hopefully will lead to a change in their consumption behaviours. ‘I eat, therefore I am’ is mainly in the Thai language.

It is hoped that people will balance their lifestyles in such a way that these are geared to sufficiency and sustainable living and that they have the courage to become better and more responsible.

You eat, therefore you are. You consume, therefore the world is the way it is.
