H2Uppp and PtX Hub Academy Conduct PtX Safety Training
On 30 October 2024, the International Hydrogen Ramp-Up Programme (H2Uppp), in collaboration with the International PtX Hub Academy, implemented by GIZ Thailand, held a “PtX Safety Training” session delivered by Philip Miltrup, an expert from the International PtX Hub Academy, for relevant stakeholders in Thailand at Marriott Executive Apartments Sukhumvit Park, Bangkok.
The handling of products from the Power-to-X (PtX) process, such as hydrogen, oxygen, ammonia and methanol, requires specialised knowledge and strict safety protocols to mitigate the risks associated with these hazardous materials. This training aimed to raise public awareness of green hydrogen and Power-to-X as an alternative energy for the future and promote a sustainable energy transition in Thailand.
More than 30 participants representing the public and private sectors, and independent organisations, learned about the risks and hazards associated with hydrogen, oxygen, ammonia, and methanol. The training covered the specific properties of each substance, such as hydrogen’s flammability, oxygen’s corrosion, ammonia’s toxicity, and methanol’s volatility. Participants also gained knowledge of relevant regulations, safety protocols, best practices, and international safety standards to ensure workplace safety and minimise environmental impacts.
The training also included interactive activities on knowledge exchange and discussions about hydrogen and Power-to-X products. The discussion aimed to deepen participants’ understanding while encouraging the sharing of perspectives and experiences across various sectors. This collaborative approach provided a diverse range of viewpoints, enabling participants to develop a comprehensive understanding of safety management practices and the practical applications of these substances in different industries.
This training is part of the H2Uppp programme, financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and implemented in Thailand by GIZ. H2Uppp aims to support the policy and market development for Green Hydrogen and Power-to-X through studies and training, the identification and initiation of public-private partnerships (PPP) and projects, and the promotion and dissemination of knowledge through local and international hydrogen expert networks, in particular, vis-à-vis the German private sector.
