GIZ, DCCE and ERI co-organise workshop to design training courses on climate actions
On 29 & 30 October 2025, GIZ, through the EMPOWER II project, in collaboration with the Department of Climate Change and Environment (DCCE) and the Energy Research Institute (ERI), Chulalongkorn University, conducted a capacity-building needs assessment workshop on climate action. More than 50 participants from the DCCE, the Provincial Offices of Natural Resources and Environment (PONRE), the Environmental Office of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) are supporting the course design for the EMPOWER II Project for 2026-2027.

During the two-day event, participants analysed their ongoing projects and prioritised learning topic options to identify learning topics that supported them in solving problems and overcoming challenges in implementing their climate change related work. They also suggested their preferred learning activities.

Following the workshop results, participants expressed strong interest in learning topics related to AI applications in climate change work, technologies for GHG removal and emissions reduction across different sectors, and technologies supporting mitigation and adaptation measures. The effective course design and planning for 2026-2027 will be developed and implemented based on the concrete inputs provided by the participants.
Funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI), the EMPOWER II project is being implemented from October 2025 to June 2027, focusing on enhancing Thailand’s capacity to achieve its NDC targets. The capacity-building programme will strengthen key climate action actors, and aligns with Thailand’s climate action priorities.
