CCMB Supported ONEP in Organising Interactive Exhibition for an International Day for Biodiversity 2024

9 July 2024 – GIZ Thailand, through the Climate Change, Coastal and Marine Biodiversity (CCMB) project, supported the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP), in organising an interactive biodiversity exhibition on the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity 2024, at BCC Hall, 5th floor, Central Plaza Ladprao, Bangkok.
Biodiversity is crucial for human life, various species and ecosystems. It ensures food security, provides natural resources and habitats for diverse species, maintains water and air quality, drives the national economy, and reduces the impact of climate change. Conservation of natural resources and biodiversity therefore requires the collaboration of all sectors and countries. This cooperation is essential to ensure a high quality of life and a healthy environment for future generations.
The United Nations has designated 22 May of each year as the International Day for Biodiversity to raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity and promote its conservation and sustainable use. This year’s theme is “BE PART OF THE PLAN: Partnering and Collaborating for our shared Goal”. This theme highlights the global community’s shared commitment to achieving the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF).

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), Police General Phatcharavat Wongsuwan, presided over the opening ceremony and delivered a special address.

CCMB participated by organising an exhibition on the significance and implementation of Other Effective Conservation Measures (OECMs) in marine and coastal areas to conserve and restore biodiversity by 2030. The exhibition also highlighted Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for sustainable ecosystem management, protection and restoration, emphasising the critical role of citizen science in conservation research. CCMB’s efforts aim to enhance Thailand’s ability to meet KM-GBF goals through inclusive collaboration of relevant sectors, fostering sustainable conservation of marine and coastal biodiversity in the context of climate change issues faced by Thailand.
