TUEWAS Sector Network: Transport, Environment, Energy, Water in Asia

Energy EfficiencyCurrently there are five regional sector networks and two global networks in Asia which concentrate on different themes. TUEWAS which specializes on the sectors transport, environment, energy and water was established in August 2002. TUEWAS is a German abbreviation for Transport, Umwelt, Energie, Wasser in Asien to emphasis the thematic and regional focus.

Themes

The objectives of these activities are to share and to disseminate know-how and best practices to hand selected or interested target groups, nation-wide and internationally. The products are based on the daily practices and lessons learned from vast experiences of GIZ and its partners in Thailand and worldwide. The more than 50 TUEWAS projects in 13 countries operate in the following fields:

  • Energy policy
  • Renewable energy in power grids
  • Rural energy supply
  • Energy efficiency (buildings, thermal power plants, industry, end users)
  • Resource efficiency in industry
  • Climate protection
  • Environmental policy
  • Environmental management
  • Air pollution control
  • Sustainable urban transport
  • Sustainable urban development
  • Management of rural transport infrastructure
  • Drinking water supply
  • Wastewater disposal Watershed management

Working groups

The work of the TUEWAS sector network is coordinated by a steering group and supported by a secretariat. At the moment the colleagues are organized in six working groups:

  • NAMA and Market Mechanisms
  • Cities and Climate Change
  • Sustainable Industrial Areas
  • Renewable Energies
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Water and Sanitation

The activities of working group include virtual networking, regular meetings, they develop products like toolboxes, practice-oriented training for policy makers, or studies, organize regional workshops with partner institutions, offer side events of international conferences.
