Tracing the Impact: Six Decades of Thai-German Technical Cooperation

Thai-German Technical CooperationGerman Development Cooperation in Thailand began on 9 October 1956, when the first development and economic cooperation agreement has been signed between Germany and Thailand. The establishment of the Thai-German Technical School marked the first milestone in 1959, which later became King Mongkut's Institute of Technology, North-Bangkok (KMITNB).

The cooperation has covered so far over 200 projects in almost all areas. Until the late 1970s efforts and projects had almost exclusively been concentrated on poverty reduction through rural development cooperation projects as well as on vocational education and health. During the last 20 years urban development, the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises and, especially, environmental protection became the focus.

The History Workshop

In 2011 a team of young staff members of Thai-German Technical Cooperation has been researching archives both in Thailand and Germany, both of GIZ and its former parters. Many interviews have been conducted to capture real life stories from former staff members. In the following you will find main selected products of the working group. The work is also a contribution to celebrate 150 years of Thai-German relationship.
