Thai-German Programme Structure

The Thai-German Programme on SME promotion consists of two components:

1) Improving the access of SMEs to better business and financial services
This component concentrates on developing the market for sustainable services that are important for enhancing the competitiveness of the SMEs in the selected sectors. These services will be delivered through three sets of actors: private businesses, private sector business organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce or Federation of Thai Industry (FTI), and local or national government institutions.

These services include:
  • Stand-alone services like business information and training
  • Introduction of modern production technologies
  • Quality standards and the independent verification of these standards to meet international requirements.
  • Financial services for SMEs
  • Advice on legal frameworks, regulations and procedures in selected sectors
2) Stimulating the eco-efficiency of industry
This component concentrates on eco-efficient plant management and production processes that lower costs by saving energy and reducing environmental pollution. This includes both creating better framework conditions for eco-efficient production methods (policy advice) and fostering the emergence of sustainable services for eco-efficiency together with the private sector. The two components are complementary and mutually supporting.

The eco-efficiency component concentrates on the following areas:
  • Sector policy support and consultancy
  • Harmonizing and enforcing environmental laws and regulations
  • Eco-efficiency in selected sectors and clusters of industry in Thailand
  • Service development for eco-efficiency
