Thailand and Germany have been cooperating in the field of Technical Assistance for over 40 years. On the Thai side this Technical Cooperation is coordinated by the Thai International Development Cooperation Agency (TICA) and on the German side by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) with GTZ (German Technical Cooperation) as the German implementing organisation. The current focus of Thai-German collaboration is on enterprise competitiveness with a particular emphasis on promoting small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) using a market development approach. This focus on competitiveness and SME promotion takes account of the advanced development of the Thai economy in a world of increasing globalization. Thai SMEs need to keep innovating. As standards get higher for Thai products and as markets demand more environmentally friendly production processes new competitiveness strategies need to be developed which are tailored to creating higher value added, as well as meeting the demands and potentials of eco-efficiency.
