Thai-German Climate Protection Programme

Energy EfficiencyThailand's Strategic Plan on Climate Change 2008-2012 aims to remove existing barriers for both substantial mitigation and adaptation measures, and to promote integrated spatial and sector approaches by relevant line agencies both on policy framework and implementing level.

Under the framework of the German International Climate Initiative (ICI) by the German Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), the Thai-German Climate Protection Programme (2009-2011) is being implemented by GIZ and its Thai partners to support Thailand's climate policy development and implementation.

Objectives and Approaches

To further develop and implement the Thai climate change policy. To reduce climate affecting emissions To increase national and local adaptation capacities To strengthen the role of Thailand in the international community in the field of climate protection

The Programme consists of three projects which are closely linked. While the climate policy project functions as a strategic umbrella, the energy-efficiency and tourism projects are mitigation pilots in highly relevant fields:

  • Climate Change Policy
  • Energy Efficiency in Medium-Sized Enterprises
  • Climate Protection in Tourism
